METALWORK TECNIQUES
The work metal with the lathe, is a singular technique,
where the turner becomes accomplished after the direct
and constant contact with the matter, so he develops
his capacity and his own sensibility.
With appropriate tolls, called " castagne" the
metal plate is stretched so much that it hugs entirely
to wooden mould and during this important process the
metal plate must be cooked many times to make it ductile.
With this process the turner can make round and oval
items like trays, coffee pot ,incense burners, teapots,
tea trolleys, perfume displays, Kleenex boxes, tables
,land lamps,…
Another technique used in the metalwork is the forming
work, sometimes used in the Filigree work that in the
goldsmith's craft is made up of application grain by
grain of metal.
The next process after the forming work or the work
metal with the lathe can be the hammering work, the
repoussé and chiselling, all techniques made
by hands, so the craftsman can mould and decorate the
item in according of his natural bent, his taste or
demands.
To avoid the metal yields under the blows of chiselling,it
is necessary to fill it with black pitch to cushion
the blows.
After this process, there is the "monteria",
technique needed with soldering to put together several
pieces: these are delicate moments and the craftsman
must be very experienced.
Finally the new metalwork is ready for the processes
of the polishing and silvering(silver plate),carried
out with the dive of the items in the galvanic baths. |
